Nothing gives a room character like vintage furniture and accessories and though Washington, DC does have some great home décor shops, if you really want to find vintage treasures at affordable prices, you should grab a friend and go on an adventure to one of the decorator barn sales between Leesburg, Virginia and Frederick, Maryland, about an hour outside of the city.

Barn sales aren’t your grandma’s antique stores. Each barn sale features a collection of vendors, many of whom are interior designers, who set up booths full of curated vintage items that they’ve picked for their originality and potential to make any room gorgeous.

Most barn sales occur once a month, and some of them work together and open on the same weekend. All sales are located close to route 15 between Leesburg, Virginia and Frederick, Maryland.

Chartreuse & Company, Frederick, MD – Open every third weekend of the month, with special events and tag sales throughout the year.

Stylish Patina, Frederick, MD – Open every third weekend of the month.

Loyalty Red Barn Tag Sale, Waterford, VA – Open monthly.

Decorators Barn Sale, Purcellville, VA – New to the barn sale scene, open monthly.

While you’re in the area, check out the Old Lucketts Store and On a Whim, which are open daily and feature great vintage finds as well.

Happy treasure hunting!
