As the political hub of the nation, Washington DC is the perfect place to enjoy the culture and diversity celebrated every February during Black History Month. There are events taking place all across “the district” each week, so we gathered a few of our favorites to share with you. This is by no means an exhaustive list so take some time to explore the numerous cultural programs that are spread across the city this month!

National Gallery of Art: With lectures, downloadable podcasts, and exhibits, the National Gallery of Art has a calender packed with fun and informational events that are all free of charge (but it’s first come, first serve so get there on time).

George Washington’s Mount Vernon Estate: A daily wreathlaying at 12 p.m. on the Slave Memorial is only one of the many unique offerings at the former home of the nation’s first president. Weekend visitors will be treated to educational and informative performances by historical actors using the tools and clothing of the era to explore the experience of life as a slave on the estate.

District of Columbia Public Library: Throughout the month of February, the DC Public Library offers special programs celebrating Black History Month. Programs include art exhibits, jazz concerts, book discussions, theatrical workshops and more.
