As you probably know by now, we here at Bozzuto are very passionate about building green and eco-friendly communities. We love sharing green projects with you in the hopes that you will become as passionate about the Earth as we are (if you aren’t already, that is!). Our plan is to bring you monthly tips on how you can make your home greener than it already is. If you missed our post from last month: “6 Do-It-Yourself Resolutions To Stay Green In The New Year,” be sure to check it out for a little more inspiration.

- Recycled Light Bulb Orbs – We love this idea for turning burnt-out light bulbs into works of art. All you have to do is use a fine-tooth metal saw to gently saw the bottom of the light bulb off and pull out the filaments. Next, use a hand-held drill to poke two holes in the base opposite from each other (be sure to drill against scrap wood so you don’t bend the metal of the bulb). Lastly, lace a thin wire through the holes and tie it off at your desired length. Hang several orbs filled with water and blooms at varying lengths to add beauty and depth to your outdoor space.
- Living Succulent Wall Art – Don’t have room for a garden on your patio? Why not hang a vertical garden in your living room then? This project will take a few weeks to complete before it is ready to hang, but we promise the results are beautiful. See the full step-by-step instructions from Sunset Magazine here.
- Book-Wrapped Trophy Mount – If you like the look of a regal trophy mount on the wall, but could never bring yourself to mount a real dead animal in your home, this inexpensive project is the perfect compromise. We got this idea from Casa Sugar; she used a Styrofoam taxidermy mount and then covered it in strips of book pages and newspapers. The antlers are made from tree branches she found while on a walk. Check out the full instructions here and make your own mount for much cheaper than buying one pre-made from Anthropologie or Neiman Marcus!
- Socket Light Sconce – This branch-like socket sconce almost reminds me of a piece of coral. Made by designer Erin Martin, she created this unique sconce to hang in a bathroom that was featured in the September/October issue of CA Home+Design Magazine. This project is affordable and requires no rewiring whatsoever. Simply screw a couple Y-socket adapters together until you are happy with the branch-like shape. Next, screw the light bulbs into the openings. Finally, screw the original socket splitter into a socket on a wall and the sconce is complete!
- Lace-Wrapped Candle Votives – This craft from Stylist Home will add a touch of elegance to your mantle, centerpiece, or side table. Simply wrap different sized mason jars in lace or twine after spraying them with glue and voila! you have vintage candle votives to light up your home.
- Fancy Wall Re-Surfacing – Ceiling medallions don’t have to be limited to being hung on ceilings anymore. This creative idea came from Country Living Magazine who hung the medallions using adhesive caulk to totally transform the look of the room. You can purchase the medallions from Home Depot, starting at around $12 a piece.
